We´re really excited to publish this blog post for a number of reasons.
– First and foremost this wedding is beautifully shot by client Daniela Reske. We love her composition skills and the way she handled the harsh Mediterranean light to her benefit.
We recently met Daniela at our recent Carmencita Meets Birgit Hart & Peaches and Mint workshop in Barcelona and had the chance to personally congratulate her on her recent improvements and great film results.
– Secondly the location: Cadaqués, Spain! Adoptive hometown of Salvador Dalí and a true Mediterranean Spanish gem. It was really inspiring to see how Daniela used “touristy” locations and turned them into iconic wedding shots.
– Last but not least: film is awesome. Yup, we love how film’s huge latitude handled the high contrast light situations without every losing any highlight detail… and those Portra colors … <3
So again, congratulations Dani! Can’t wait to see your next works ^_^
We’ve had a few great clients lately from Russia, and we’re really excited about it. Some of us at the lab are huge fans of classic Russian portraiture and they’re whole great camera tradition ( Zenit, Kiev, FED, you name it!). A couple weeks ago a package arrived from Russia with a bunch of medium format rolls from a photographer couple named Yaroslav & Jenny. Their comments on the order form were super enthusiastic.
They loved the work they’s seen come out of our lab and where really eager to see what we could do with their film. Turns out these guys are good. They travel all around Russia carrying their Contax 645 and iPhones (yeah, they’re huge on Instagram) and whenever they stop traveling they take awesome photographs on beautiful weddings.
So… how could we not show you guys what their rolls contained?

Today we’re really glad to feature client Martin Condomines ‘s 5 month travel through Australia adn Bali.
When his rolls arrived at the lab the Order Form said “first time shooting film… hope something works out”.
Just after scanning the first couple of frames we knew this was special. Besides the obvious beauty of the stuff he photographed along his road trip his compositions really stood out. Perfect framing and spot on exposure and never more than one shot for a given moment/subject.
Read on and check kurt what a this French photographer who works mainly during the Summer wedding season did to have a second chance to get summer in the Southern hemisphere.
Oh, and for the curious, this was all shot with a Canon EOS 3 using Kodak Portra 160 and 400 films.
Today we’re super excited about featuring on a full post the work of client Joao Mascarenhas. His work has popped here and there on past BEST OF blog posts, but with his latest 30 roll order we were like “man, we gonna post this stuff!” So here it is! Check out client Michael Ferire rocking out Kodak Portra 400 in really tough artificial light situations for a campaign for Mosaert clothing company!
Michael has pretty much perfected the art of concert and backstage fashion photography on film, which for the most part feature harsh artificial lights and/or mixed white balance stuff.
Unlike other film photographers he doesn’t seem to have a problem with it. The guy just shoots with all his passion (AND meters like a boss!) and just sends us his rolls from whatever part of the world he’s currently in.
We scanned this a while ago and though it was about time to publish it so we can all start to brake a couple of myths about film photography.
So yeah, film looks amazing on a really bright sunset on a beautiful hill (with backlit olive trees ‘n stuff), but when shot correctly on the worst artificial light situation you can get pretty amazing stuff too… ask Michael about it 😉

SO, we haven’t featured our own personnel’s work in quite some time, and we thought you guys might be curious about what kind of photographers are behind your scans 😉
We felt like killing two birds with one stone with this blog post, since besides the obvious interest in having a worker’s photography featured this particular set of photographs involved two not-so-common treats in the work we scan; artificial lighting and the fact of a high-end fashion production being shot on film.
The following photographs were shot by team member Buenaventura Marco for Spanish designer Juan Vidal‘s Spring/Summer 2014 Campaign. The whole set was custom made by the sponsor in a warehouse and the lighting was set up to fit the 3 different “environments” within the set. The artistic references for the shoot went somewhere along the lines of “a David Hamilton’s vibe but with a contemporary fashion look”. The lighting used had to be continuous because there was video being shot and flash wasn´t an option because it wasn’t the desired look. Also the HMI lighting equipment was daylight balanced (instead of the usual tungsten balance) for ease of scanning/ mental health of the guy scanning (i.e. Buenaventura himself!).
For all you camera geeks out there the whole session was shot on a Contax 645 with the 80mm lens using Kodak Portra 400. We thought it looked great when Buenaventura showed us the first scans and we’re happy to finally be able to show you guys! So yeah, now you know what this guy is doing whenever he isn’t working on YOUR scans or petting one of his three cats. ^_^

The weather’s been pretty crazy in Spain lately, specially in the Mediterranean region, where Carmencita Headquarters is located. We went straight from wild Summer to sort of weoird premature Winter, no transition at all. Serioulsy, we’re talking 30ºC at 1pm in early November… It was specially rewarding to develop and scan wonderful stuff like this session by the great Belle Studio-Esther & Gabe where the actual colors of Autumn are so present. We’re blessed to see the world through our customers’ lenses and we thank you for the great work you keep sending our way! 
El clima está siendo bastante raro durante esta primavera, especialmente en la zona Meditarránea donde está situada la base de operaciones de Carmencita. Aquí hemos pasado directos del verano extremo a una especie de extraño invierno prematuro. En serio… estamos hablando de 30ºC a la 13:00 de la tarde a principios de Noviembre… De esta manera fue especialmente reconfortante revelar y escanear este trabajo de los geniales Belle Studio-Esther & Gabe en el cual realmente se aprecian los colores que el otoño se supone que debe tener. ¡Nos sentimos afortunados de poder ver el mundo a traves de las lentes de nuestros clientes y os agradecemos los trabajos tan buenos que nos seguís mandando cada día!

Wesley Nulens is the perfect example of what a succesful client/lab relationship can grow into. Since the very first rolls he sent us (about six months ago) he let us know exactly what he was looking for. To this point the relationship has evolved to a point where were are so familiar with his shooting style and color/contrast preferences that he no longer gives us gidelines and he literally says 99% of the scans he gets from us are delivered to his clients without any editing at all. This gorgeous maternity shoot is on of the latest order he’s sent us. Wesly is really perfecting his command of Kodak Portra film, and in this session he used both Portra 160 and 400 for the color images. Wesley Nulens es el ejemplo perfecto de una inmejorable relación cliente/laboratorio. Desde los primeros rollos que nos envió (hace unos 6 meses) nos indicó exactamente qué buscaba en nuestros escaneos. A día de hoy la relación ha evolucionado a tal punto que estamos tan familiarizados con su estilo de exposición y sus preferencias de color/contraste que ya no nos manda indicaciones y dice literalmente que el 99% de los escaneos que le entregamos se los manda a sus clientes sin ningún tipo de edición extra. Esta maravilla de sesión de maternidad es uno de los últimos encargos que nos ha enviado. Wesley está perfeccionando su dominio de las películas Kodak Portra, y durante esta sesión utilizó tanto el Portra 160 como el 400. Como siempre un placer trabajar en tus negativos Wes!
