Discovering Valencia

with your film family

– 2017 –

It’s here again! A “Carmencita meets” in Valencia, our home and our headquarters. After moving from L’Alcúdia to the city and handling the overwhelming work we were so lucky to have this summer, we feel it’s time to hold a “Meets” in this little corner in the Mediterranean. The Meets is something different, think of it as a gathering of photographers who love to share experiences and grow together, rather than learning master tricks. #thisisnotaworkshop

Only through sharing it’s possible to take European Film Photography further, plus we can’t wait to show you the little wonders of our city!

Experience the City as a Local

[bra_divider height=’5′]

Like the lab, most of us have been born and raised in here, it isn’t a large city and we love it. We know by heart it’s tips and tricks, the best spots and the stories behind it. One of the best things, pretty much anytime you come there is sun 100% guaranteed. We hope you feel part of the city by the time to say goodbye.

We won’t gather in one location, cause there are several locations we need to show you if you make it down here. We will move around the city as if it was second nature. In Valencia pretty much everything is within walking distance, full of narrow streets, impossible corners, buildings from the XIV century and all surrounded by the vivid color of our folklore.

And not only the city, we will take you to the wonders of nature that surround us too!

Learn together

[bra_divider height=’3′]

A huge part of learning and growing as a professional relies on sharing, at least that’s what we firmly believe. We love workshops for that, but as much as we love the knowledge we love the feeling of getting back home with a bunch of new friends that share the same crazy passion about film photography as we do and the fact that we had the chance to talk about our passions over long lunches, warm dinners and cold evening drinks.

And that’s what we aim to do! Rather than telling you how to shoot we would love to exchange experiences and share what we know and how we work while surrounded by the wonders of Valencia. Connecting photographers is something that’s written in the very DNA of Carmencita and we can’t get enough of it.

Perhaps you already knew about the work of our Portugese friends (check them out!) but BrancoPrata is more than just photography. A big part of it relies on the styling and floral design, and we feel it’s a fantastic opportunity to see how they work and combine those skills with photography.

As photographers it can be difficult to see all the hard work behind the styling & decor. We want to use this chance so you can meet Sofia, the superwoman behind BrancoPrata, and you can ask her everything you want styling related, in order to make the best out of every shoot. They will be hanging out with us and explaining step by step their creative process, in order to help you work with stylists or when you are planning something of your own.

There won’t organized styled shoots this time, we want to gravitate towards talks about creativity, style, why film, how to market yourself, creating a community and so on. Also doing little trips and have more of “little spontaneous shootings” : )

Bending the “Workshop” concept

[bra_divider height=’10’]

Being able to learn the tips ‘n tricks of big photography names is indeed a really good way of learning but we’ve seen a huge rise of the film photography in Europe and we are thrilled to see how everyone is reaching a point where learning how to expose is not a challenge anymore.

Seeing how the community is evolving we feel there is a lack of an event where you can learn how to further develop your business further, how to approach your type of clients or even how to book the jobs you love and market yourself; while you can enjoy a relax atmosphere and you can actively participate giving your personal experiences and sharing your concerns among others.

A lot has changed since we opened back in 2013 and we believe workshops are something meant to be updated too!

You are also a speaker

[bra_divider height=’10’]

Here is where we believe something can be made different, being cozier than conferences and without the hierarchy of a classic workshop. That’s why we want to meet with you!

We want to hear your voice and create an environment where we all share our thoughts and the only silly question is the one not asked. We will change the lectures for round tables. And yes, tables with ‘s’ cause there is so many things to talk about and remember the city is our playground, this will enable us to move around within the city finding the best spots to gather, discuss and learn.

Everything is within walking distance in Valencia… and we know that if it usually takes 10 min to get anywhere, with photographers it takes 30 min between “Oh wait stand there for second!” and “Man I need to take your portrait with this light!”.

Know the costs

[bra_divider height=’10’]

Since we started this adventure something was crystal clear for us: we are here because we want to help photographers to shoot film and not die trying. First it was scanning and developing, it advanced a bit more with our little film shop and it stablished with spreading the knowledge through workshops.

We couldn’t be happier for all the experiences we had but from what we’ve seen nowadays it appears that we have an scenario flooded with workshops, and that’s great… when you feel you get what your money is worth.

[bra_divider height=’20’]

That’s why we will open our books for those who wish to know where all the budget goes to. If you’ve got questions we will be pleased to answer them! And if at the end of the workshop there is an extra profit we will decide together what to do with it, drinks, film, Carmencita coupons… you name it! Also understand that organization time will be paid in hours to the respective people involved.

This is not a regular workshop, neither it’s meant to be like one. We deeply believe things can be done differently for the best!

[bra_divider height=’0′]

Everyone’s invited!

As you may know already, Carmencita is 4 years old but we never did an opening party when we initially opened (due to unexplainable reasons), so when we moved to the city, we said “Now is the time!”. It turned out better than we could have ever imagined, having 15 people from all over Europe flying for that weekend and mixing up with 200 people from Valencia, discovering the lab’s new facility and celebrating film (and free beer indeed).

We are not sure if you can actually celebrate the anniversary of a party  but we plan on doing it anyhow =) We couldn’t think of a better ending to a “Carmencita meets”, a huge party to celebrate our second year in the city.

[bra_divider height=’15’]

Your accommodation is booked till Sunday so, even though there won’t be any organized activities during the day, we count on you for the Saturday night party!  The “Opening Party Anniversary” will take place April 29th and further details will be published on our Facebook real soon!
