Best of

March

Without any doubt, this month will be mentioned in every history book. We realized how connected we are, and that we are not invincible, in fact, very far from invincible and very close to fragile. Our world nowadays is so connected and interdependent, that allowed us to grow like no generation has done before, but at some costs too. The feeling of these months is that it seems that time has stopped, delayed or cancelled and still today, few months after everything happened it is still hard to comprehend the dimension of it. The lab (and the Best Of) was exception.
We delayed this post several months for obvious reasons but now, when it seems the worst has passed, we asked ourselves how do we want to remember this period. As a permanent wound, or a scar that tells our history? We were “lucky” enough to be able to keep things running, even if was just at a 10% of our capacity, but keep being able to deliver film and scans for those who kept creating in film during the lockdown days and at least, we could perhaps make their days a bit brighter with film scan, sharing knowledge through IG live and trying to bring a spark that said “this will pass”.
There will be definitely a scar on everyone’s memories, and for us, we choose this Best Of March, the future Best Of April and Best Of May to be our scar, we refuse to leave all this dark period for human kind without our small grain of sand of monthly appreciation to some of the great imagery that is being created using film photography as a medium and that we have the privilege to develop and scan.
We hope this delayed post remind us that even under the hardest circumstances, photographers & artists still find room to be creative, even if we can’t help directly to the collective well-being like other professional that literally save our lives in one way or another, either in the hospitals, supermarkets, delivering goods, bringing us from one place to another or explaining the world to us through information.
This will be the first of three Best Of’s under confinement days. Not all images are speaking about the lockdown but many posses this flavour that is speaks about confinement in small nuances.
Stay strong, stay safe.
